Overcoming anxiety and sharing the Gospel in East Africa

Read this beautiful testimony of one of our mission trip participants overcoming anxiety and sharing the Gospel in East Africa.

Mission Trip to: Zambia
Church: Mobberly Baptist Church

One month before the Zambia team departed, Mike Mahan began to get anxious about the trip to the point of finding excuses not to go. It wasn’t until his daughter, Maci, who had been to Kenya before told him to keep praying. Anxious feelings soon vanished and preparation continued.

Mike had never shared the gospel on a scale like this and doubted his ability to convey such an important message. Seeing Maci’s boldness and the way she loved everyone and did everything with seemingly zero fear was an encouragement as he was getting ready to share the gospel.

Their first day, he stuck to the script of what he had written and studied. While some accepted Christ, he said it felt rehearsed. Another opportunity soon arose as one of the village leaders, Joseph, told he and Maci to sit tight because they were going to share the gospel. Mike looked at Maci and said “not it,” but Joseph had other plans. “Brother Mike is going to share the gospel with you,” Joseph said. With an obedient, willing spirit, Mike got up and shared the gospel straight from the heart with no notes and saw the majority of the group accept Christ under the very tree where they were planting a church.

Mike plans on taking his entire family next year back to Africa and encourages everyone to get out of their comfort zone and go on a mission trip!

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
