Meet Pastor Precious Phiri.
He has a passion to share Jesus in Malawi and has planted 6 churches outside the capital city of Lilongwe, Malawi. He was mentored by our director in East Africa Mclean and attended the 2 year Church Missions Network Pastor Training School program. Here is his story:
In 2017, a pastor from Malawi walked into a training program that would change not only his ministry — but his life.
Today, Precious Phiri is helping lead a growing movement of church planting and discipleship across his region. And it all started with Pastor Training Schools.
A Pastor with a Calling
Precious lives in Lilongwe, Mitundu, where he serves as a pastor and ministry leader alongside Pastor McLean, the Africa Country Director for Church Missions Network. But his ministry didn’t always look the way it does today. In 2017, he enrolled in the Pastor Training School introduced by Church Missions Network in East Africa — a decision he says reshaped everything.
“They equipped me how to plant a church, and it has been beneficial in my life — in my spiritual life, even my family life. All things changed.”
Training That Turned Into Action
The impact of the training wasn’t theoretical. Precious immediately began applying what he learned in real ministry settings. His first church didn’t just grow — it multiplied. Through the principles of discipleship and church planting he learned, Precious helped plant five additional churches. Today, he is shepherding six churches in total. That multiplication reflects the heart of the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19: “Go and make disciples.”
For Precious, this isn’t just a verse — it’s the mission of every Christian.
The Need Is Great
Precious speaks honestly about the reality on the ground:
“The field is big, but the workers are few.”
Across Africa, communities are still waiting to hear the Gospel. Many areas remain unreached, and the need for trained leaders is urgent. That’s why partnerships matter. Precious expresses deep gratitude to churches — especially those in the United States — who support and partner with Church Missions Network to train pastors like him.
A Shared Mission
The goal, Precious says, isn’t recognition:
“Our aim is not to be famous, but to glorify the Name of the Lord.”
Through pastor training, church planting, and discipleship, lives are being changed — not just within congregations, but within families and entire communities. And as Precious’s story shows, when local leaders are equipped, the Gospel doesn’t just spread. It multiplies.
